Meet Alex Jarnot, Guest of EP 7
/Hello! My name is Alex and I am a Ph.D. student studying atmospheric chemistry. Basically I study air by catching it in a jar and examining it. It's a bit more complicated than that, but not much. I look to see what makes air special based on where it's from. My research specifically looks at fire smoke from wildfires and agricultural burns, and how this smoke interacts with urban pollution. This is important because although fires are a huge threat to us when the flames are raging, they can be just as deadly long after the last embers have cooled.
I also like to make pottery, and work on using gathered materials for my clay and glazes. I try to use my right-brain artistic side to fuel my left-brain chemistry side of my research, and that makes this the best job in the world!
